These services have a dual purpose:
To nurture the development of the infant or young child with a delay
or disability, and to support the family of the child.
Infant-Toddler Services (Birth
to three years of age) Early Intervention Services for infants and toddlers
are provided in a family-centered manner. Families and professionals
work in partnership to design a program of appropriate services and
activities for the child and family. A family service coordinator assists
the family in obtaining services and resources from various agencies
in response to family needs.
Preschool Services (Three
through five years of age) Early Intervention Services for preschool-aged
children are designed individually to meet each child's needs, and usually
involve a combination of home-based and community-based programs. Home-based
services provide the opportunity for family involvement in daily learning
activities, while community preschool services enable children to develop
social, language, and pre-academic skills with their peers.
Developmental Screening Services (Birth
to five years of age) Free developmental screening services are available
monthly in Marion County at a different location each month. At a screening,
a child's development is checked in five areas: physical development
(vision, hearing, nutrition, and movement), learning abilities, speech
and language development, self-help skills, and social skills. Please
call for the date and location of the next screening.
